Local information

Rhins of Galloway offers quality accommodation in Cairnryan, just 1 mile south of Cairnryan P&O ferry terminal and 3 miles south of Cairnryan Stena Line ferry terminal. We enjoy the benefits of out-of-town semi-rural surroundings, but are still less than a 5 minute drive to both ferry terminals, shops and eateries.

  • Overlooking Loch Ryan, set in lawned gardens, superb panoramic views, 20 yards from a shingle beach and coastal walks

  • A special and unique historic building

  • Spacious and relaxed accommodation and surroundings, comfortably appointed quality en-suite bedrooms and suites

  • P&O ferry terminal (Cairnryan) - 1 minute drive, Stena Line ferry terminal  (Cairnryan) - 3 minute drive

  • On-site parking for vehicles up to 6 metres (no long vehicles, HGV or coaches) - see Location & Parking

Our breakfast room looks out at the P&O ferries in dock, with the new Stena Line Superfast boats just visible beyond at their new Cairnryan dock. For departures prior to 07:30, we can provide a 'breakfast bag to go'.

For evening dining, there is a a choice of different styles of eateries to be enjoyed in the area.

We are not licensed, and are therefore happy for guests to enjoy their own purchases - there is no corkage charge and glasses and ice are freely available.

The premises are only open to guests staying with us, and we do not operate a 24 hour reception.

Once inside, all accommodation is on the ground floor, but there are several steps up to the main hotels entrance, and a single step into our Garden Suite.

The views from the building can be enjoyed from outside in all weathers from the shelter of the covered veranda that fronts the building, and take in Loch Ryan, Cairnryan ferry port and Cairnryan Lighthouse beyond, and beautiful unspoilt farmland and countryside to the sides and rear. Our placement makes us ideal overnight accommodation for travellers using the Stena Line ferries and the P&O ferries from Cairnryan, and provides a wonderful place from which to spend longer enjoying the unspoilt beauty of the area.

Officially opened by Princess Alice, Duchess of Gloucester in 1943, the building itself has had a variety of uses, boasting a history that can make a place feel very unique and special. Bedrooms have classic simplicity using contemporary furniture. Bedroom corridors and other communal areas are furnished with an eclectic mix where Versace sits alongside Victorian antique furniture, giving us a pleasantly distinctive character.

The entire building is strictly non-smoking.

 Pets are not allowed

Wi-Fi is available free of charge within the entire building.

A dedicated computer for guest use is also available for checking emails.
