Cairnryan hotels - Rhins of Galloway reviews

Rhins of Galloway, Cairnryan, Stranrae - Gazebo

  • View from beach embankment towards Rhins of Galloway, Cairnryan, Nr StranraerA special and unique historic building, a quality stay, a sensible price

  • Spacious and relaxed surroundings

  • Comfortably appointed bedrooms, quality en-suite bathrooms

  • Cairnryan ferry terminal - only a one minute drive away

  • Stranraer ferry terminal - only a four minute drive along scenic A77

  • Overlooking Loch Ryan, set in over an acre of lawned gardens

  • Superb panoramic 360 degree views, 20 yards from a shingle beach

  • On-site parking for bikes/cars/vans and vehicles up to 5.7 metres (LWB transit) - see Location & Parking for vehicle size limits

Rhins of Galloway is perfectly located between the two ferry ports of Stranraer and Cairnryan, enjoying the benefits of out-of-town semi-rural surroundings, but still within a few minutes drive of the ferries, shops and eateries.

Privately owned and personally run, we offer quality accommodation within a unique hotel setting.

  • A full breakfast menu is provided in our characterful dining room looking out over the docking ferries, and although we do not provide evening meals, we offer a limited hot and cold snack menu until 8pm every day, served to the room, lounge or dining room. Alternatively, a choice of different styles of eateries can be enjoyed in the area.

  • We are not licensed, and are therefore happy for guests to enjoy their own purchases, either indoors or outside in our thatched gazebo - the perfect place to watch the summer sun set with a bottle of wine. There is no corkage charge, and glasses and ice are freely available.

Regardless of style and stature, hotels not offering an evening restaurant or licensed bar are defined and graded by VisitScotland as Guest Houses rather than Hotels.

The premises are only open to guests staying with us, and we do not operate a 24 hour reception.

Once inside, all accommodation is on the ground floor, but there are several steps up to the main hotels entrance, and a single step into our Garden Flat. The views from the building can be enjoyed from outside in all weathers from the shelter of the covered veranda that fronts the building, and take in Loch Ryan, Cairnryan ferry port and Cairnryan Lighthouse beyond, and beautiful unspoilt farmland and countryside to the sides and rear.

Our placement makes us ideal overnight accommodation for travellers using the Stena Line ferries from Stranraer and the P&O ferries from Cairnryan, and provides a wonderful place from which to spend longer enjoying the unspoilt beauty of the area.

Rhins of Galloway, CairnryanOfficially opened by Princess Alice, Duchess of Gloucester in 1943, the building itself has had a variety of uses, boasting a history that can make a place feel very unique and special. Bedrooms have quality en-suite bathrooms and are decorated with classic simplicity using contemporary furniture. Bedroom corridors and other communal areas are furnished with an eclectic mix of antiques and modern design, giving us a pleasantly distinctive character.

Although we have a large car parking area, large vehicles/trailers requiring non-standard parking spaces must be pre-arranged.

The entire building (main hotel and flat) is strictly non-smoking.

 Pets are not allowed

Wi-Fi is available free of charge.

A dedicated computer is available for checking emails in the foyer.

Wi-Fi is available free of charge.
